The reinstallation of U3 Launchpad software and feature-set to U3 smart driver is manufacturer’s dependent process, where you need to download U3 LaunchPad Installer or Updater that will install or update the U3 Launchpad in the smart drive. The installer or updater is normally available for free download at the manufacturer’s support page or driver download page, where the common one is listed below. SanDisk: U3 LaunchPad Installer (LPInstaller.exe)
The rest of the brands provide U3 Launchpad updater in order to upgrade to Vista-compliant and compatible U3 Launchpad, and thus able to support Windows Vista. But in most cases, the updater can be used to restored removed U3 functions.

Removing/Uninstalling U3 Launchpad on a PC

How do I remove/uninstall the U3 Launchpad from my flash drive using a PC?
There are 3 ways to remove the U3 Launchpad from your SanDisk Cruzer flash drive.

METHOD 1 - Uninstall from Settings
METHOD 2 - Download and run the U3 Removal tool
METHOD 3 - Uninstall U3 during initial setup


NOTE: You need to have Administrator access to uninstall U3.WARNING: Back up all your data before removing the U3 Launchpad

METHOD 1 - Uninstall from Settings
1. Insert the U3 flash drive to the PC's USB port
2. Click the U3 icon on the system tray.

3. Click Settings then select U3 Launchpad Settings

4. Click Uninstall on the left panel, and then click on the Uninstall U3 Launchpad button on the right.

5. Click Next to continue.
6. You will be given an option to restore your files after removing U3. Click Yes, if you want to restore your files after removing U3 or No, if you don't want to restore your files.

7. Click Format to begin uninstall of U3.


METHOD 2 - Download and run the U3 Removal tool
1. Download U3 Removal Tool and save it to your desktop.
2. After downloading, double-click on launchpadremoval.exe to run the application.



METHOD 3 - Uninstall U3 during initial setup
1. First time you plug in your U3 flash drive to your PC, you might see this window appear.

2. Click No (I want to use my Drive for storage only).

3. Click the Remove U3 button to confirm uninstall.

NOTE: If the uninstall tool fails on Windows 7, you may need to complete the format using Disk Management.

 
Formatting a drive or device using Disk Management

How do I format my drive or device using Disk Management?
NOTE:
For legacy U3 Smart Cruzers - Formatting will not uninstall U3. Go to Uninstall U3.

For MP3 players - the player has to be in MSC mode before connecting to the PC.

For miniSD/microSD cards - The cards must be used with a compatible reader before it can be read in the computer.


STEP 1 - Connect your flash drive, MP3 player
(in MSC mode), memory card or card reader to the PC

STEP 2 - Open Disk Management

Click Start, right-click on Computer and select Manage.

STEP 3 - Format the device / MP3 player
1. Right-click on the drive / device you want to format then select Format.

2. Occasionally, a warning may come out concerning active partition, click Yes.

3. You can leave the formatting options such as the Volume label and File system to default.
4. Click OK to format.
 
Installing U3 Launchpad on a PC

How do I install the U3 Launchpad?
U3 can only be installed on SanDisk USB flash drives manufactured prior to December 09. All U3 compatible SanDisk USB flash drives will have the U3 Smart logo. If your product does not have the U3 logo it is NOT U3 compatible.

NOTE: If you are attempting to update the U3 launchpad using a Windows 7 Computer, please see answer ID 3682 and then continue with below steps.
NOTE: Cruzer Titanium Plus(SDCZ28-004G) is not supported with this installer.
NOTE: U3 programs are no longer available for download from SanDisk. U3 programs already installed on your drive will be preserved if you use the 'Backup Data' option during upgrade installation. You can also copy the 'system' and 'documents' folders into the data partition from your own data backup to restore your programs.

STEP 1 -
Backup all your data



STEP 2 - Download U3 Launchpad Installer
1. Download the U3 Launchpad Installer from the above link.
2. Click Save File and save it to your desktop.

STEP 3 - Run U3 Launchpad Installer Wizard
1. Insert a SanDisk compatible U3 smart drive to your computer.
2. Double-click LPInstaller.exe
3. Click Next.

4. Select Accept then click Next.

5. Select Yes, backup and restore all data to restore your data after it is reformatted, then click Next

WARNING: All the data on the drive will be erased and cannot be recovered if NO is selected.

6. Click Next after confirmation of Installation Options.

WARNING: Do not unplug your U3 device while installation is in progress.

7. Click Finish after the installation is completed.
 
Installing the SanDisk Backup (standalone version) software on an Ultra Backup flash drive on a PC

I formatted my Ultra Backup USB Flash Drive. How do I re-install the Backup software?
NOTE: Proceed to STEP 2 if you have backed up, uninstalled U3 and formatted your Ultra Backup drive.
STEP 1 - Backup all your data, uninstall U3 and format the device.


STEP 2 - Download SanDisk Backup (standalone) software

1. Download the SanDisk Backup software and save it to your desktop.
2. Plug the Ultra Backup drive to the PC.
3. Unzip sandisk-backup-pc.zip and extract SanDiskBackup.exe to the root directory of your Ultra Backup drive.
WARNING: Do NOT extract it to the desktop of your PC

STEP 3 - Setup the SanDisk Backup software
1. Double-click SanDiskBackup.exe
2. Select your preferred language from the drop-down menu.

NOTE: SanDisk Backup is available in 19 languages (English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Dutch, Russian, Czech, Polish, Turkish, Korean, Japanese, Traditional, Simplified Chinese and Arabic).

3. Read and accept the End User License Agreement (EULA) by clicking Yes, I have read and accept the EULA check box.

4. Click Next.
5. Select the drive to install SanDisk Backup software on, then click Next.

6. In the Backup Name* text box, type in the backup name.

6a. If you like to protect your data, click to select the Password protect and encrypt my data check box, and then specify your password.

7. Select Automatic or Custom backup.

8. Click to select the SanDisk Backup Manager will be installed on your computer to ensure automatic and continuous backups check box to allow SanDisk Backup to be launched automatically each time you plug your Ultra Backup drive to your PC. Click Next

9. This is only an option, but if you like to create an online account, type in your email address and create your own password in the text boxes provided.
